A rain barrel can make a garden project feel satisfyingly concrete: roof runoff becomes water available close to the plants. Melbourne’s October 1 announcement offers another reason to investigate, with $50 rebates for qualifying water-saving equipment.
For rain barrels, the city specifies a new container of at least 40 gallons and residential water customers living within Melbourne’s city limits. A separate composter option requires at least 30 gallons. The toilet option applies to city residential water customers billed directly by the city, replacing a pre-1994 toilet with a WaterSense model using no more than 1.28 gallons per flush.

The announcement limits assistance to one rebate per account and/or address with the same resident throughout the programs. It should not be read as an offer of three separate $50 payments. Funds are available until exhausted or September 30, 2027, whichever comes first.
Before purchasing, request the current application packet and confirm eligibility and remaining funding with Environmental Community Outreach at 321-608-5080 or rebates@mlbfl.org. Keep the model information and purchase paperwork together so the application is easier to complete.
