Melbourne readers can start with Brevard’s digital library card
An online eCard opens digital resources for eligible adults, while an existing physical library card already provides that access.

A library visit can begin at home. Brevard County residents aged 18 or older can apply online for a free Digital Library eCard, giving access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, databases, learning tools and other electronic materials.
There are two important distinctions. The eCard is for digital items only, and it expires after 365 days without renewal. Holders can take accepted proof of residency to a branch to upgrade to a physical card. If you already have a current Brevard library card, you do not need a second eCard to use electronic resources.

For a physical card, the county asks adults for photo identification and proof of county residency. Resident cards are free and valid for three years. Checking the accepted-document list before leaving home can prevent an unnecessary second trip.
Melbourne borrowers should also check return arrangements: the county’s current card page says the Melbourne Library’s after-hours book drop is unavailable because of safety concerns and asks patrons to return materials during regular hours. For a first digital session, choose one book or one learning resource and test the login while you have time to ask for help.
